And ....... at the end of the 7th day, the good Lord ( Erik to his friends ) was satisfied - having created the heavens and the earth and all the flora and fauna that dwells above, on and beneath it in the first 6 days before spending his day off having a few pints of Guinness whilst designing his masterpiece - a 21st century version of the venerable, hairy arsed, Vincent Black Shadow - the tube framed M2, S1, S2, S3, and X1 Buells ( yeh! - I know the later water cooled Buells are quicker, more nimble and probably more reliable but it's my feckin story
).In 1999 one of his new disciples was lured by the prospect of stonking power delivery and identical BHP per cc ( aprox 40bhp from 500cc vs 100bhp from 1203cc respectively ) as his old DBD34 along with much better electrics, suspension and brakes etc and he purchased a new Blue Stripe "Viper" X1 but was never happy with the black engine and brushed stainless exhaust finish.
Some months later, Satan intervened
and said disciple was seduced by the sight of a limited edition ( 800 made for worldwide distribution with 20 destined for UK dealers ) "alloy" finished engine ( which became standard from 2001 ) Millennium X1 with silver ceramic coated exhaust headers, solid alloy footrests, silver painted frame and a couple of other tweaks and he traded the X1 Viper in for a new Millennium X1. He got the dealer to fit a Scorpion stainless race can, a replacement 1999 dedent plate and to polish the engine and primary drive cases along with the swinging arm and rear wheel pulley and two of his neighbours liked it so much that they each bought these rare Millennium X1s.The disciple subsequently changed the paint scheme of his Millennium X1 to Buell Blue Streak, replaced the fuel tank with new one for an S3 Thunderbolt and fitted a Force Racewinder ( sourced from our very own and much beloved Maz ) air intake system and these changes required a Buell race ECU. His neighbours merely had Scorpion stainless race cans, K&N air filters and Buell race ECUs fitted to their Millennium X1s.
The point of this tale is that one of my neighbours ( he has his own business and is wealthy enough not be concerned ) has only used his X1 about a dozen times since buying it in 2000 and it has been languishing in his garage for the past 9 years or so under a dust cover.
I haven't ( seriously ) discussed this with him but he might be willing to let his "once in a lifetime opportunity for someone to buy a very rare and almost new" Millennium X1 go but it would have to be at a price close to it's initial purchase price so this is one for the discerning buyer of substantial means rather than someone who just fancies buying a tatty second hand X1.
