They'll be even worse to drill out when that happens.

Would you fit stainless in engine cases? Yeah there's the galvanic corrosion issue but they are also nice and shiny

Exactly ......and definitely not

It all started with just pulling the wheels off to fit new rubber, now look at the state of it

Image

With the paint flaking badly on the swingarm, decided to pull it out for powder coat as well as the wheels.

In order to pull the bearings out, no puller or drift would fit, so welded another washer onto the bearing and smacked it out easy.
Image
Surprised by the cast logo - yep Brembo swingarm.

Once the arm was out, I spotted another problem might need to get an orthopaedic shoe made to suit those footrests - not that I'd ever actually noticed it :oooops:
Image

Wheels are finally back with me
Image

The missus went out - time to do some baking, rear pulley and matt black PJ1
Image
Came out nice but stank the kitchen out

And fitted
Image

Dropped the motor to get to the rear header bolts
Image
Which thankfully came out really easy :D

Started to clean the headers up
Image

Happy tinkering.

You need to invest in a blind bearing puller.......and powder coat in the bearing bores

Invest  Have you not picked up on how tight am yet? ;)

Welder works fine, if I need to pull a bearing ever it's not going back in.

(did invest in an induction heater though, after the header nut hassle - not that I needed it on the rear header nuts which were little more than finger tight.)

There was a dusting of coat in the bores

Despite being very specific about masking up - had to clear out the disc spring pockets and chase out all the threads as well :headbang:

Maz, whilst I'm in there, do you have any of the output shaft upgrade parts left that you'd sell?

As Maz says a blind bearing puller is a great piece of kit and well worth having in your workshop, a tip for anybody that needs to remove the remains of a bearing from an internal bore on anything. If there is only the outer race left and it is impossible to get behind it with a puller or drift CAREFULLY use a stick welder and run a bead of weld all the way around the inside of the bearing race where the balls used to run, as the weld cools the bearing will contract in size and virtually fall out of the hole on it's own ;)

With the flat bars fitted the throttle cables were running a tortuous route around the headstock
and one had become trapped and damaged between fork top and bars.

I took the cables off repaired the damaged with some adhesive lined heatshrink and then held them
vertical from the vice and dribbled oil in the top to let it work dow through the cable overnight.

Decided that their run would be much improved by some butchery of the cast headlight cowl/clock
support bracket thing and two holes were drilled.

Image

On to the rear exhaust hanger and it fouls the free spirits aftermarket belt tensioner - so that got attacked as well

Image

before being re-finished in matt black.

Matt black in hand, I stripped and re-painted the manky looking reg/rectifier unit - what numpty puts this in direct line of fire from the front wheel,
one who never had to deal with wet salty crap strewn uk roads I guess.

Image

Dave H picked up one of these from Maz - so cheers!
Image
Fitted it, now what do I pump into it?

Meanwhile the engine bracket and swingarm came back from the powdercoaters.

Happy days!

Which plate to fit?

'Legal', 'cheeky' or 'sorry officer here's another £60'

Image

at least it's going back together and finally back on it's wheels.
Image

Tried to fit the pipes, only to find that I measured one old clamp and bought four the same, only to find the pipe diameters change along the length and I need two different sizes.

Legal plate got a trim - scored it twice with a knife and it snapped off clean.
Image

Want to remove the orange filters from the indicators so bought some chrome 10W bulbs
Image

All irrelevant as the blighter doesn't want to start - not a peep from the starter motor. Turned out the connector inside the headlight cowl that the start switch plugs into was a bit corroded. Popped the contacts out, cleaned them, lubed them and it now starts - bit loud with the open headers though.

Stain magic is the answer, if you can get it. Got my last two tubes from Japan
