Gutted but won't make it this year....

This is going to sound like a dumb ass question but why can't this event move closer to a late summertime / early summer? Only asking asking as it's such a big event for us and thought why not?

Neil, see this topic for a full explanation viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20856&start=15 Em's Day 2016 was confirmed on the 8th January.

Today's date, although not ideal, is the only one we could get from the LAHC this year, it wasn't our first or even second choice. Hopefully next years Em's Day will revert to May or July.

Huge thanks to everyone who attended :worthy: ....

It stayed dry all day at East Kirkby and a total of 52 motorcycles turned up. We were amazed so many arrived on two wheels given the awful weather forecast for most of the country.

More details, including pictures, to follow tomorrow when we get back home.

Brian, it was good to meet up again after all this time. Your Ulysses looks mint and you must be very pleased to find one in such good condition.

We knew it wasn’t going to be the biggest Em’s Day we’ve ever held but it many ways it was one of the most memorable. When we left home on Friday morning we thought Saturday was going to be a total washout and we’d be lucky to have just a handful of motorcycles turn up. Instead it went far better than we could have hoped.

The weather for the event was spot on, we enjoyed warm sunshine until around 2.00pm when it started to cloud over with menacing clouds in the distance but it actually stayed dry over East Kirkby. We think Emma was looking after us because we got back to the Red Lion, which is just 2 miles from the Aviation Centre, half an hour before the heavens opened.

We can’t thank everyone enough for attending yesterday, we really do appreciate it. We hope you didn’t encounter bad weather on the way home but we’re sure some of you did. A couple of the Ducati Monster Owners Club guys ran into some downpours on their way back to Norfolk.

Out of a total of 52 motorcycles there were 13 Buells and 7 Vincents plus an assortment of Italian, Japanese and other British makes. This year we had some cracking specials and they attracted a lot of attention.

The event raised £70 for Emma’s Charity and we’ll send a cheque off to Papworth Hospital during the coming week.

The LAHC Dambuster event which featured a 40 minute talk by Johnny Johnson, the last surviving member of the raid, was both humorous and very moving. He’s 94 and quite frail but he had everybody enthralled with his account of one of the most famous Lancaster missions of WW2. He received 3 standing ovations :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: from the 500+ audience.

It was a privilege to be part of something special and the LAHC got the setting just right with their Lancaster and a replica of the Barnes Wallace bouncing bomb providing a suitable backdrop to the event in the main hanger.

The talk by Johnny must have been the icing on the cake and an absolute privilege. :worthy:

Good effort by all.
