Well, I've just taken my M2 for it's MOT, and discovered that the rear wheel bearing has play.

Any reasons why it should suddenly fail? I'm sure it was OK a couple of weeks ago, and yes, I torqued up the axle nut correctly, and the belt is 'scary loose'....

Anyone have a recommendation for replacement bearings?

You might find as I did it's actually the wheel that's worn, caused by overly tight belt at some point in its life.
I always prepare for worst case scenario :old: .......Maybe not though, SKF or Timken preferably from a recognised supplier BSL etc, apparently there are lots of fake copies on the old interweb, :idea:

It's fairly straightforward if you know your way round a spanner or two, there are two bearings on the pulley side and only one on the disc side of the wheel....... And the belt as you mentioned before should be able to touch bother sides of the swinging arm at rest. Easy peasy really :yup:

Hmmmm...just got home, and pulled the rear wheel out.
As you correctly predicted, the play is caused by two grooves worn in the right-hand side of the hub. The bearings are not too bad.

How did you get around the problem on your wheel?

Thanks for the info.
It occurs to me that if I use the bearing retainer fluid, how do you centralise the bearing in the hub? Or am I just worrying too much...

Put the spindle through all three bearings and leave to cure. Lay the wheel down on the disc side that should centralise the other two on the spindle whilst it goes off.
