You are probably right but the Engineer in me is reluctant to bolt £600+ of highly engineered shock absorber with exposed finely toleranced shaft and seals about 5 inches above the road surface and directly behind the front wheel throwing all sorts of detritus at it without at least some form of protection. The one I have bought isn't full enclosed like the one I am taking off.

The engineer in me would never have bothered fitting a decent shock to such a wobbly old donkey of a motorbike....

Now I am trying to un-shit-ermerate it you are still all taking the piss!!!! A lesser man would jack it in and buy a Harley but I am going to battle on regardless and assume this is some sort of weird tough love/ character building exercise to prepare me for travails long term Buell ownership. 8-)

Spotted this on Ebay, would this stop it being wobbly? and would it still be a donkey?

I had one of those (clear) on my X1 when I raced it in the early 2000s. Got mine from Henry Duga @ Buell's Race dept. Completely useless as a belly pan on a dry sump bike. Had a little cutaway for the tail pipe and if 2.5 quarts ever did leak out, it would just flow over that tailpipe clearance cutout. Any leak I ever had was from the crankshaft seal overheating and disintegrating. It just filled up the primary then the tranny and then coated the back tire. But it satisfied the tech inspectors before the races as they have no idea how a dry sump Buell works.

Would be fine to protect a shock. Just isn't very attractive.
