 Post subject: 98 S1W Headlight problem

My headlight has stopped working. It first happened at night and scared the shit out of me. I was just about to turn round and go back where I'd come from when it popped back on. It did the same thing again just before I got home. It was then OK. It went again today (in daylight fortunately) and has not come on again. I could tell it went because my high beam indicator light has come on.

Does the fact that both high and low have gone, and the fact that the high beam indicator has come on, help pinpoint the source of the problem, or do I just have to start at the headlight and work my way back :?:

Everything else seems to be working fine.

I know, but I was hoping that someone would recognise those specific symptoms and say something along the lines of "aha, it'll be the tartan wire in the 13 pin connector between the lobster thermidor diode and the french resistance capacitor ", thereby saving me from having to delve too deeply into the electrics, which I generally tend to do in a very haphazard and confused manner, even with a multimeter and a manual :oooops:

Mine used to go from High beam to complete blackout. No fun at night.
Fixed after squirting WD40 in the switchgear.

Well I didn't need any Sherlock Holmes powers of deduction, once I'd built up the energy to get started. Must admit, I was expecting some spaghetti in there, so was pleasantly surprised to just see 4 wires :oooops:

Any H4 connector socket will work.
remove the melted plastic ,see if the connector is still connected onto the wire ,squeeze it a bit with a pliers to make it tighter and clip them into the new connector socket.

You probably did something like that by now!

I did, just went down the nearest car place, got a new socket and a 3 pin connector to join it up to the bike wiring.
