I'm looking at an XB12SCG on ebay. It's a long way from me, but maybe worth the trip.

The thing that concerns me is that the steering head and wheel bearings have been replaced and it's only done 7500 miles. This seems a very low mileage to replace these bearings, so could the owner be a power washer owning wheelie freak or is this normal for a Buell?

Pretty normal for an XB, the head races last about 10k, wheel bearings every other tyre change...

Bearings are too small for the job...

Only if you're expecting 2.5K from your tyres.......bearings last around 5K max IME and are always changed with tyres in the hope they last as long as the tyres do.

Okay, so it's normal.

Now got to decide whether to go to Colchester (270 miles each way) for that one or go and have a look at a 'Long' 120 miles away.

I'm 5'5" and wondering if a Long is too tall?

That's 19 seconds of my life I won't get back!

I don't mind tiptoeing, but as I wanted to keep this one long-term, I was thinking I should get a lower one from the start. It turns out that beggars can't be choosers and I'm just gonna have to get something. I can look for a nice SCG later!
