Hi guys anyone got any knowledge of running g a quick Shift on a xb9/12 etc. due to my injury I can't use a clutch when Changing gear ...90 percent of the time I'm fine it's smooth but occasionally if I don't match the revs quite right I can be a bit heavy on the odd up change...so I'm a little concerned about killing my gearbox ...I have the race ecu in mine was there ever a option for plug and play quickshifters ?

Cheers wobb

Snipped mercilessly - However, in all seriousness, do you know what is involved in repairing an XB gearbox? And can you do it yourself? Either way, I'd be selling the bike while it is still in one piece and buying a Buell with a trap door gearbox. That way, if you do break the gearbox (and I suspect you will) at least you can repair it and be back on the road in a day or so.

And may we ask what kind of injury you have?
No hand or not enough strength in the hand?

Maybe a hydraulic conversion!?

Müller Power Clutch's are expensive, but have rave reviews from overseas users, been looking into Hydraulic conversions myself when I bumped into Müller kit, cheaper than hydraulic and maybe more suited to your needs (German made).

I think they'll fit an XB9, not very knowledgeable about fuellers - sorry :|

Have no experience of these, so do your own research http://efmautoclutch.com/

Forgot to mention,

Müller Power Clutch's are different to the normal clutch aid, you do not have to extend your reach to the lever with these.

I've got one arm and use a centrifugal clutch for ease to be honest, the standard clutch hub was modified and the end plate is a nice little thing with ramps and ball bearings ...these clutches are popular in the states EMF auto clutch on Harley's but I have had a few issues with it to be honest and the support is not great ...maybe I should of bought a 1290 superduke after all :( I love the bike but don't want to kill it either ...hence I thought a quick shift ....emf say to retain the clutch lever for gear changes if needed but we can't see how it can work ...and they said don't worry then don't use it. Are these things really that fragile ? I always thought American stuff was heavy pig iron and built like a brick out house :(

I am not familiar with XB boxes. Traditionally, I think it is 2nd and 4th gear that are most prone to failure. If your XB is an early one around 03 to 05 (?) they were known for fragile gear boxes which were updated for following later years.

Edited to say - All Buell pushrod engines suffer from an under lubricated needle roller bearing that fails too. That is why a simple mod called Maz's nipple is installed.

I repeat my advice - Sell it in one piece and buy a Buell with a trap door gearbox. HTH.

this will appear a little mad, so forgive me.

Back in the day, when a motorcycle was my only form of transport, I managed to break my right wrist (in plaster for weeks). To get around the inability to twist a throttle, I moved the throttle over the left hand side of the bars, operating both the clutch and throttle with one hand. I wont say that hill starts were easy (or smooth), but within a day I was comfortable with it. Crazy suggestion - moved the clutch over to the right and link the brakes (combined with EMF, may work ), not a very health and safety approach (from an E.H.S. guy), but should be workable.

Just a thought.

...my complete and utter respect to you, Mr Wobbly, for even climbing on a bike with one arm, let alone trying to ride one :yup: :worthy:

Some 10 years ago there was a one armed guy on the Dutch buell forum that had his firebolt converted to all levers on one side of the handle bars.
He had a bionic arm for support only and did all with his good hand.

Massive respect for anybody that still rides with that sort of disability , I think as a group we should all do our best to find a solution to Wobblyone's issue. An Xb maybe isn't the best bike for clutchless gear changes but like he says he loves the bike so lets help make it possible for the dream to continue. I remember somebody having a tuber with a quick shifter a few years ago at Ems day and believe the previous owner had it fitted due to a disability. Maybe a quickshifter with a suitably programmed ignition cut out along with the centrifugal clutch is all that is needed.

Lets make it UKBegs new year resolution to help this man get sorted ;)
