I said I'm tight, so I made one but the FTDI cable is faulty, bought another FTDI cable.

Reg, I can only assume you must be very hard of thinking if you have not yet worked out that the fitting of a FS tensioner is more valid than your next tank full of fuel.
Not only does it preserve belt life but it also extends wheel bearing and idler bearing life.....once fitted you'll notice that even pushing the bike feels like the brakes have been let off, neutral is easier to find, gear changes are easier but most importantly, output bearing life is extended......if your bike suffered an output bearing failure, it would be scrap ie. cost of replacement would far exceed the bikes value.
Check out all the XB's that Erik owns...they all have FS tensioners fitted
.....140 quid = very cheap insurance

There Maz, that wasn't so hard was it  :D

How does an output bearing repair cost 3k!!!!!

I've done loads of output bearings on all sorts of gearboxes including having smashed up cases repaired and journals re-machined, none cost more than a hundred quid and a few hours of my time.

Regardless - christmas came early at cheesetowers :) ;) so I hopefully wont ever need to find out.

Whilst I'm waiting for santa to turn up I turned my attentions to other areas.....

Sick of getting cold dirty water thrown off the back wheel, running down my back and down the crack of my arse to soak my pants within 2 minutes of riding on wet roads I decided to do the unthinkable and make my Buell more practical.

Few minutes measuring and cutting up some scrap hard anodised ally sheet I had knocking about, bent into shape, stuck a reflector on and gave it a coat of matt black to hide it a bit.

And fitted, looks gash but hopefully will stop me getting wet pants.

Before I fitted it, I washed the bike and took a couple of pictures

You could put fake fur on that, and if stopped by the police for speeding you could say that you thought you were being chased by a badger :old:

Dont care, it has to be better than walking around all day at work looking like I've pissed myself. Though if I've driven the van in that morning I may have a little more explaining to do.

3K is if an HD dealer does it at 90 quid an hour plus parts......Honestly 2.5 to 3k is the ballpark figure

I paid £250 for a Mille engine and I bet the lads at Aprilia Perfomance Tamworth could throw it in your bike ...not much they can't do with these engines.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Need a fancy bike lift? No bother...

Image

Special tool to undo the rear spindle, fire up the welder.
Image

Turns out the rear spindle is F tight
Image

Turn the welder up to 11 and go again....

Had to get a 4ft breaker bar on the rear spindle to shift it! Yes I had undone the pinch bolt. I did it back up with a torque wrench to 50ftlb.

So why I'm I messing about in the garage tonight?

Just to keep Maz happy and prove that my teachers were wrong and you can educate pork

Fitting it didn't exactly go to plan....

The tensioner hit the exhaust bracket so I fitted the washers behind the bracket as I've read on the web and to counteract the offset fitted all the shims on one side of the pulley (there still wasn't enough supplied though)

I had to repeatedly fit and trim the belt guard until I got clearance and took about 10mm off in total.

And once fitted the belt sits just fractionally off the rear edge of the pulley, I need to remove the washers and fit something thinner in their place.

Didn't you have the hex drive in the tool kit?

Did you read this viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10#p348 ?......ie. throw the supplied shims in the bin.
Did you remove the spindle and copperslip it ?
