Hi from Leicester, Picked up an 06 Buell XB9SX Lightning at the weekend. Always wanted one for years and I'm not disappointed. Its great bike.

I will be changing the belt tensioner for a Free Spirits one and shortening the back end.

Andy

Thanks for the welcome. I will have to go to the next bike night at Ashby Folvile! Busy last night!

I'm on a few other forums for other vehicles I own so know my way round a forum (Mazda RX 8 and VW T25 camper)

The previous lady owner of the Buell bought it in 2011 and put around a thousand miles on it in the last 5 years, but paid to have it serviced every year!

Ive removed the rear pillion pegs/mounts and taken the lower seat off and put the standard one back on.

Andy

Hey Andyp!! I'm new here too and just got buell xb9sx couple of days ago. Like you I'm trying to shorten the back end. Are you doing yours yourself?? I can't seem to find any tail tidy made for these bikes. Please let me know if you know a place or anyone who can do this for me. Cheers

I'd take a hairdryer to the reflectors on the forks before doing the tail piece and remove them. It'll stop corrosion eating eating away at the aluminium behind them which can get bad enough to warrant new forks. And that's it bucks these days :yup:

Which T5/T25 forum do you use Andy? I've been having mither with the Turbo solenoid (the famous 'Mooing valve' ) and couldn't get much sense on the Forums I use. Eventually figured it out myself and also found how to reset the Engine Warning lamp - which garages told me was a Dealer job

Adam - I use Club 80-90 or the Brickyard for the T25.

Grr - I've not found a cheap solution to the back end yet! Might buy another cheese grater and modify that.

I will be taking a hairdryer to the reflectors this week.

The cheapest solution for the back end is an anglegrinder.

Cheers, I'll try those VW sites, never heard of them before. The cheapest solution to your XB rear end is the use of a hacksaw, and Halfords sell the same colour paint in aerosols. If you ride in the wet however, you'll get a load of shite thrown up your back with the back cut down.
