Hi everyone, just joined the forum. Ive been offered a 2008 Buell ullylesses for £3000, its the 25 anniversary model with the lower seat and panniers. Its only got 8000 on the clock. The exhaust is original with a fine layer of rust on the outside. The engine sounds well. The BIG question is can we still get parts or not? things like belts etc. How long do original down pipes last? I'm worried that I'm buying a bike so rare that there might be problems ahead buying parts etc? Any advice would be most helpful as I would really like this bike, thanks col

welcome Col

yes
the exhaust cans rust but there are plenty of aftermarket ones that don't
the down pipes don't rust as they are stainless (but they do tarnish)
belts yes the well known manufacturer of t-shirts & born to ride tat sell them still
sounds like a good price too

Hi I think the down pipes are steel as there is layer of fine rust on them, or could I be mistaken? I'm almost 99% sure on that

Stainless steel is not stainless. Just more resistant to corrosion and discoloration than non-stainless steels. Some stainless steels are better at it than others. How much are you willing to pay for the best of all grades of stainless steel?

The Buell headers are stainless steel. As are the ones on my Kawasaki and Honda that also look the same after a while.

Check out the recent photos on The Emporiums FB blog and you'll see how these stainless headers can look after a decent clean up

Ok thanks but even the owner says they are steel. They are also painted black. I did a HPI check and all is fine though, mysterious :o

Are they the originals? If they are, they are stainless as Maz has said - he knows a little bit about these bikes :yup:

Just found Emporium on FB. Looks good. 4 hours away but good excuse for a ride and a night in a Dukinfield inn. Will have to book in for an 1125 check over and service next year Maz!
