We had thought of buying some flowers for when we visit Mitchell's memorial but it isn't very practical on two-wheels, so we've had this plaque engraved to leave as a more permanent tribute :worthy: ...

Nice.
Shows up my lack of knowledge... shocked to learn that he died without knowing his contribution to our island's defence... or indeed to be honoured for it ...or to see the reaction that his finest creation still gets when it's heard or seen 70 years on...

:worthy:
unfortunately a Knighthood , can only be given to a living recipient.

according to QI...
there are no knights buried in England,as the title is only for the living

a national shame that such a feat was not greater rewarded

I have just learned that Spitfire were designed/developed just 4 miles up the road from me, after the Southampton factory was bombed

Tony, thanks for the offer but it might be a bit impractical :hehe: ...

Never mind Good Friday, today has been more like Awesome Friday. We covered 264 miles in beautiful weather :sun: and managed to avoid the worst of the Bank Holiday traffic by using a meandering cross country route. We had all day to play with so we made the most of it. Lambourn Downs and Salisbury Plain have never looked so good.

The photo below was taken in a small village on the A338(?) The bikes are parked next to the villages 18th century prison, which is a listed building.

Despite tomorrows less than ideal weather forecast we're still going ahead with our R.J. Mitchell tribute. We'll be at the Sky Museum between 10.30am and 11.00am as planned.

See you later, Tony :yup: ...

The forecast was correct, waterproofs required :( and there's gales in the mix for later on this afternoon. You couldn't get a more different day to yesterday.
