Hi Folks
New to the BEG. Just purchased a 2008 1200 Lightning CG. Absolutely loving the bike, however it has an annoying problem in that it will only reluctantly return to idle some time after shutting off the throttle. It likes to idle on the run when throttle is shut off at 2K rpm. On pulling to a stop it will settle at normal rpm of 1K ish. I noted from this site that there appear to be problems with throttle range settings and a pretty long winded process is needed to reset the range. I have seen though that there is a simpler method for 2008 models. Has anyone help on this. The bike has a Remus can, with the baffles now fitted. Bike has done 3,600 miles.
Many thanks

Throttle cable sticking a bit??

Air leak at manifold?

It could be one of the above but will more likely need connecting to a 'lap top' type gadget or need to be reprogrammed using wires, gold plated connectors and a doofer......

Sounds to me like you need a TPS reset. A 5 min job if you get hold of a ECM spy cable. A Dealer will do it or some member who lives near you will volunteer. See the HowTo section 8-)

..from Pash's TPS reset How to Section... :worthy:

08 and later Buells
The 08 and later have a completely different procedure and doesn’t need ECMSpy.

Turn the ignition on, engine kill switch to run, twist the throttle 3 times - keep the throttle fully open for one second and fully closed for one second.

Job done!

OH an welcome to the site francism :sun:

Folks
many thanks for your very quick responses!
Nutah
thanks for the info on the TPS reset for 08 on bikes. One point, I am assuming that twisting throttle three times refers to the next instruction ie full throttle 1 second then close for 1 sec, repeat process two times more? Sorry to ask the question, looks a bit too simple compared to the earlier models procedure!

BTW does anyone have good reccomendation for Buel parts suppliers?

Thanks

For Buell parts try Black Bear HD 01638 664455, ask for Nobby or for performance parts and bling, try Moorespeed (home of tubbs) 01202 746141...

And yes, throttle wide open, pause for one second, throttle fully closed, pause for one second, throttle wide open, pause for one second, throttle fully closed, pause for one second, throttle wide open, pause for one second, throttle fully closed, pause for one second then cycle the ignition.

Errr..........yes, forget the ECM Spy thingie, I didn't take on board yours was a '08 model. It's the same procedure as on my 1125. Doesn't do any harm to do it from time to time 8-)

It might just need the Idle setting adjusted as well.
