Just got the buell back today, from getting the header/exhaust studs drilled and re threaded, since they snapped.

went for a run today when I picked it up, after about 27 miles the Eng Light came on, at 1st I Panicked and check the oil!!!(i know there is an oil light now doh) but any way it wasnt registering on the dipstick :? , so as an emergery to get home I the only thing I could find a couple miles in either direction(mates) was 10w-40 only put in a litre to get me home,

Have ordered new oil filter and correct oil, and an ECMSPYcable and finally tracked down the software(1.12.1?). too see whats up.

To the point doh

the front rocker cover(upper bit on head? is that right?) was pissing brand new oil out, do I need to change the gasket? or you just nip it up can this be done without an engine drop?
was it because the that oil was too thin(or should it just not leak?)

Eng Light? no idea, what it is yet, but the bike is running smooth :/, cant be too serious I hope.

Cheers for you patience

man I have ordered crap loads of parts from BlackBear(Cheers Maz) latley(they have opened an account lOl , someone tell tuggs that his Buell is falling to bits lOl lOl and i've not even did 1000 miles since ive had it lOl

Bit long, soz :/

Did you check the oil with the bike on the side stand?

Yeah man, you may have over-filled it and hence the oil leaks.

Not sure what year yours is, but IIRC it is a Lightning, so follow the instructions here:

http://www.buell.com/om/99474-05Y_en/

Forget Triumph, this is forward thinking Buell, where you have to check:
* gearbox oil with the bike vertical on horizontal ground (no paddock stand)
* engine oil with the bike on the sidestand

Since you have mixed two types of oil, I would probably be inclined to change it, but remember, you only drain at the swinging arm for the engine. People have drained the gearbox too and goosed their gearbox by not filling it.

This contains useful info:

If there is something you are still lacking, let me know and I will update...

Good luck

Cheers Pash,
well noted for future, just checked with it bieng on the sidestand (Cold) and its well above the recommended.

Ordered 2.5ltres of new Oil and Filter.

Away to drain it , just now.

do you think it worth changing the front rocker gasket, I would have to order, but I do have a large supply of Loctite Copper Silicon Gasket Maker. should do the job?

an spot on its n XB9S 2005 lOl

The rocker cover gasket is rubber and I would think it should last for ever unless it goes brittle.

You could check the allen screws that hold it down are tight (dont strip the threads though - there are torque values for them)...

my XB pissed oil out when i overfilled it :oooops:
put the level right and it was OK , are you sure it's the gasket & not
the breather on top of the head ?
mine did that then it ran down the rear cylinder, looked like it was leaking from the
gasket initially.

And don't use any kind of instant gasket type crap instead of the rubber gasket ;-)
When i had the lower rocker gasket weeping on my X1 i did use a smear of instant gasket on the outside until it was replaced but never use it instead of the correct gasket as it could cause very expensive damage if any gets into an oilway ;)
