Bog standard HD mineral oil.

Bought it from a non franchised dealer who changed oil and plugs, said it was Valvoline 20/50. Rode it for about 100 miles then checked levels only for it to spill out of filler when I removed dipstick. I assume they filled oil with bike on paddock stand to full mark when cold.

To be sure I drained and refilled with HD stuff.

Dunno then, there isn't a pidgeon nesting in the left scoop by any chance!

I run my bike without the standard right scoop on for a while because my fan run alot and it did seem to lessen the running time alot, try it it won't harm anything.

Maybe your engine is just tight still, wants a good ole' thrashing!

Nate.

Booked in at Stealers (Harleyworld) in Chesterfield. Had a good chat with one of the technicians there who actually seemed interested in the problem. He will do some diagnostics on it, hopefully something will pop up.

He did say he didn't like the Micron exhausts on them, too many flatspots and tickover issues, but didn't think that was the problem with the cooling.

don't have any heat problems now - only comes on when its had a good thrashing or been sitting in heavy traffic

Red Baron,

Do they stock these R/H Air Scoops or was it second hand?

Cheers

I like the sig, however:

What bike do you have?
What is a "T-H Rear"?
What is a "K&N/Mod A/B"?
What is a "S4 D'tool"?

K&N air filter, drilled out inner cover & breather reroute.
S4 Data tool alarm squeezed behind fly screen.

Stealer says there is nothing wrong. Fan cuts on at 428deg and off at 365deg. No errors and problems shown with mappings. It would benefit from 'tweaking' maps to improve 'lumpiness' from Micron but wouldn't affect running temperature.

Only problem is then once it gets warm the fan can't get the temperature below 365deg so it stays on, although it's not getting hot enough to create an error.

So only things getting cooked are the shock and my arse.

So I guess a right hand air scoop that fits around the Micron headers is the next thing to try.

How much difference would Sync3 oil make to cooling above HD mineral stuff?

Bugger all I think but thats just my opinion!

Bet it's still tight. Give a thrashing so it loosens up!

Nate.

Dealer said synth oil would make little difference to cooling too.

Turns out they hadn't tested the engine temperature switch at all, only looked at the values converted into real temperatures on the ecu.

If the fuel maps are ok, the engine isn't overheating and all the switching is ok but the fan runs continuously once it gets to temperature then the transducer in the switch could be faulty so bought another to try. The fan shouldn't run constantly for over an hour whilst travelling at 60-70mph in top gear none stop through England with an outside temperature less than 15deg to the point you have to stop as the hot seat is unbearable, something isn't right.
