utter bollocks to say loud pipes save lives. i run my xb with a stock pipe, no problems as i know how to ride safely. i would rather sneak along nice and quiet, and unnoticed :D
as fo rperformance, a loud pipe may not give much more power if its not designed right

Filter in commuter traffic and see the car drivers notice you with a loud pipe. On my whisper quiet DRZ they just don't see or hear you. At least with hi vis, headlight and loud pipe you are hoping to at least hit two of their senses rather then one.

you forgot yellow trousers

And they still don't see me!!!!!

:old:  Don't think you will achieve any more power than a standard system. Looks terrible spoils the lines. Should go to the local butchers for a lesson in sausage making! The factory has tested the best system and the aftermarket boys have perfected it, take your pick! ! ! :sad1:

the factory has used the best compromise for performance/noise level/emissions/packaging
as for the 'aftermarket boys' i make race car exhausts for a living so why would i want to give them my hard earned cash?
also if the standard exhaust is so great why did they point the tailpipes straight at the back wheel?

anyway quick update for those interested, i now have a set of larger primaries so we can see if the stepped header works on these engines, and i am halfway through another set of standard size primaries but more equal in length. :)

The factory pipe is reasonably good but nowhere near the 'best' - otherwise ther'd be no need for a race pipe. The std exhaust is only the best in that it gives good performance and can still pass stringent legislation. As someone who has had two different aftermarket pipes on my 1125, the aftermarket ones I've used have been far from 'perfect' but do sound better.
I'm interested in what Albert comes up with, I've not seen anything yet so I'm keeping an open mind. Considering a lot of aftermarket pipes are just generic bolt on cans, something made by a car race pipe maker has got to be in with a chance. From the photos of his work and comments he's made about welding, it's obvious he knows his onions about fabrication too.

As my exhaust has developed an allergy to the British winter, I'm also following this thread with interest. Less than 105db at 5000 rpm is a must for me tho.
