a member on the badweb forum machined the base of the oil pump to bring the center line level of the pump gear up to the center line level of the pump drive gear.
Apparently it solved the wear problem

Or replace the OEM gear with the undestroyable one from LuckyHands. Once installed you will never have to waste any thought of this again.

No sign of this part using your link, Gunter.
Have you any more info?

Yep, that was me who did this modification to my Buell S1W.
Over 30.000 km's now and no sign of wear :-)
Tried it on a XB engine also, in combination with a Berylium wheel from Buell, after 25.000 km we opend the engine to repair a bad crankshaft...no signs of wear on the pumpwheel . It works perfect :app:

whitbuells thread

here they talk about raising the pump shaft rather than machining the pump case.

another post off badweb,
ATT: BUELLERS
ie: OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR
The oil pump gear is harder than the penion shaft
drive gear!!!!!!!!!!
(whitebuell had his pinion gear hardened)

Ther is a slot in the -98 oil pumps in 1998 and later BUELLS.
This -98 pump has a slot just below the oil pump
drive gear which was a product update to suck oil out of the cam cover using the oil pump.....
The ENGINER forgot to think about a SCREEN to cover this slot(metal gets into this slot and locks the oil pump up)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you as a BUELL OWNER improvise(make one) screen to cover this slot the problem will be
solved!!!!!!!!!
The factory does not have a clue yet!!!!!!!!!!
In buelling
LaFayette
(LaFayette ended up putting a filter in the return oil line)

As many of you know i have had serious problems with my x1 recently, i put down to an oil gear failure by a previous owner who bodged the bike back together to sell,
I set about flushing the oil tank on it yesterday, i was shocked by the amount of metal fragments in there, all settled in a thick sludge in the bottom.
It took several flushes (i used diesel) along with a long thin paint brush to remove/break up the sludge.
Take the oil tank off, makes the job easier (on tubers),
one to keep your eye on when you service your machine

Depends on what you want to know ;)
I have this one installed in my bikes, and when we had to tear the XB9 apart after the crankshaft failure, it showed no sign of wear at all after 15000 mls, whereas the OEM part was completely destroyed at 10000 mls. It's nitride hardened to 64 HRC and got a better fit on the pinion shaft, send an e-mail to info@luckyhands.de for pricing and shipping options.

Cheers, Gunter.
It was things like price and availability I was interested in, just to suss out if it was a viable alternative to OE.

I can just imagine the sum of my e-mail to a German company though:
"I don't speak German, I'm English" and "Two beers please." ;)

If it comes to selling, some people magically understand every language ...
