The oil pressure light on my XB12s is behaving in an odd manner. Sometimes when I first turn on the ignition it is faint other times it's not on at all some times is ok.

Does it need replacing or just cleaning?

Sounds like the pressure switch is u/s.
To prove the wiring etc, try removing the wire from the switch and shorting it to the engine crankcase, light should come on .
If it does, new switch needed.

Test it but you'll better replacing it, the one I've got doesn't work to good in the winter time but after 4 I just gave up

Doesn't sound too good. So you are running without a pressure switch altogether Isn't that a bit risky

I know the pressure is ok when they invent a trouble free switch I'll buy one, 4 in a row is a bit to much and while that was happening I was crazy thinking what if...

Might be just me but I'm wondering if a bike that blows switches that frequently doesn't have even more need for a pressure switch.

At £10 ish. I am going to replace the switch and see what happens. By bike is 2006 although a 2004 model so the current switch is at least 3 years old. I did consider running without on the basis that by the time the light comes on its probably too late for the engine. I do check the oil regularly. Any how I'll see what happens withe the new one.

Bob just check it isn't corrosion in the connector where it pushes onto the switch mine is on the original switch at 8 years old and that is the only problem i've had with the light on mine........just cleaned the connector nipped it up so it was a tighter fit and sprayed with ACF50...been no problem since

And if you do have an oil pressure problem and stop the engine as soon as the light comes on chances are no damage will have occured .
