Hi all, I’m after a little knowledge and help please,
Took 2003 XB9s for mot last week only a mile away passed with a little warning on missing pillion pegs, on the way seemed a bit hesitant, thought it might be due to swapping debaffled exhaust to standard for mot, swapped it back after and went for 30 mile round trip Today.
Gave it a bit of stick on the way, pulled up on the way back for a phone call and idle was a bit rough came back into 40 zone and running really rough and management light came on and stopped coasted into bus stop checked battery voltage ok, and for any loose leads found nothing then after 20 min started and set off again seemed to do a small backfire a couple of times and as I accelerated engine light would flash on then off,as I came back into 60 opened it up and over 3000rpm backfired light came on shut off throttle and it went off like in limp mode maybe, anyway got home plenty of fresh fuel clean air filter new Oils 1000 mile on plugs and bike has under 7000 mile on it, any ideas please? sorry got no cable or software for plugging in,
Thanks for reading

You don't need software/cable to read TC's.....see the how to section.

Ignore the 6 rapid flashes, that's the interval.....count lights on for 1 second and be careful to note the 2 second interval in between the 1st and second digit.

Ok great, after looking again it’s 15 air temp sensor, I have cleaned it carefully with brake cleaner and gently dry with comp air and still shows the same, can I clear this code first then plug in and try again, if not any ideas where to get one from in Uk please,

Thanks for all your help

Correct...and I'd be amazed if the IATS was the cause of your running issues, it has very little bearing on fueling !

Thanks for the reply, I understand you haven’t seen the bike so not asking for a diagnostic, but any other ideas what else it could be please or where else to look, this was the only code that showed up ?

Also anybody know anywhere else I could get this sensor from, I will change it anyway as it comes up faulty, but need it mail order ?

Thanks all

Ok, little update on bike, tried cleaning intake air temp sensor then measured resistance on it warmed it with heat gun and the resistance changed,( can’t remember the figures ) took fuel line off to check pump and squirts plenty of fuel out,put it back together and run it on bike table warmed it up and then open throttle a couple of times to 4000rpm briefly and light came on again.
Codes now say 13 & 15 so 02 sensor as well now, is there something else going on or can one cause the other ? I haven’t cleared the Iat code as I have no means other than the 50 on off cycles,
any help or advice is much appreciated, don’t mind buying a cable if I need

Thanks barney
