Looking to get the parts required to replace my 03 xb9s belt/pulleys for the later heavier belt.
Would they be the same sizes as a xb12 or do I need to get some off a later xb9sx?

parts I think I need.

rear pulley
front pulley
front pulley cover
belt
belt tensioner and bracket (already running fs sprung tensioner)
top and bottom belt guards (already got these)
Iv'e read on bad weather site you need to replace the rear master cylinder and hose,
is this neccesary?

Running 03 belt open at the moment, so just preparing myself for the inevitable.

Thanks for any help
Martin

Hi Nutah,

See your point, but don't know how long the 03 belt will last without the fully enclosed belt guards.
I was thinking of picking up 2nd user parts for the upgrade.

Would the parts etc, need to come off a pre 06 model (early swing arm)?

my belt lasted 16000m and i only changed it because i had a stone punch through it.
TBH it seems luck of the draw really.

I upgraded my belt and pulleys last year.
You don't need to replace the rear master cylinder and hose.
I prdered all of my parts from the States although that was when there was a good exchange rate.
I think it worked out about £300 including shipping and duty etc and it would have cost over £500 to order the parts from here.

Hi xbpep,

The consensus of opinion seems to be that the belt will last longer without the fully enclosed guards than it will with them. The problem seems to be that if you do get a chipping etc inside the fully enclosed guards (and you really can), it can't easily get out again, so will end up through the belt.

I'm running an 03 model on the original belt system (service life of belt is 15,000 miles) with very open guards. I snapped a belt at just over 16,000 miles. Now at 25,000 with no further problems so far.

Upgrade to the heavier belt by all means, but don't feel you have to do so just because you're running open belt guards.

Cheers,

Dave

There shouldn't be any difference in the speedo.

This is with the new transmissions since 2006 (?). Old fifth gear wheels had 42 teeth, new ones have 48 IIRC. VSS now counts more pulses per rear wheel revolution than before, this results in a false speed.

well...she´ll never do 300km/hour anywho so I´ll just have to test the speed-accuracy through the 8 speed-cameras on the way to and from work....
