 Post subject: Rotor nut PITA

Pain in the arse, it's not a pita bread.

Can anybody offer some advice for removing the big 32mm nut that holds the rotor in an 1125? I tried heating it with a hair dryer for 5 minutes to soften any loctite that was in there, and used a bar about 2' long, but my muscles are obviously puny.

Or perhaps a big strong lad who is local to Brooklands in Surrey could give me a hand?

how about a length of tube on the power bar to increase the leverage, but be careful
i'm a railway rock ape :mrgreen: we use cut down scaffold tube

or maybe try an air powered tool on it ,more torque :yup:

It is NOT a LH thread and you'll need more than a hair dryer to sort the locktite.......nut is tightened to 300 ftlb, so you'll need more than a 2' breaker bar.....I use an impact wrench.

.....I did ask if you had the right tools :)

.....and dont forget you'll need to remove the sprag clutch before sending the rotor for drilling.

Well I thought a breaker bar was the right tool. If I don’t have the right tools, then I’ll have to get the right tools. I’m not in a position, unfortunately, to spend hundreds on transporting it to a garage and having them do it.

I sincerely hope that you are not referring to my establishment as a fuckin' ''garage'' ? :evil:
The Emporioum is a clinically clean surgical unit, fully equipped with all the tools required to exclusively support Buell motorcycles and their owners and has been doing so for nearly 20 years.
By the time you've acquired all the necessary tools, that hopefully you'll only ever use once, you could've transported the bike to said Emporium and had the work done properly :idea:

Listen to :maz: ........I had to learn the hard way, albeit that it was not of my own making. But understand that any amount of time and money getting your pride n joy to the Emporium is the best investment you'll do. I'm in Surrey and yes the journey is a pain, however it really is the best option.

Anyone using a breaker bar on such a tight nut FFS put your gloves on with the built in knuckle protectors coz it aint just the bike that can get damaged!! :old:

‘Garage’ as in any place that could do the work, not you specifically. No offence, but you aren’t the only place that can fix a Buell properly either. The only thing I’m lacking at the moment is money. What else do you think I lack then Maz?

And no, I don’t think I would be able to get it to yours, have the work done, and get it back to me for less. The only tool I’ll be needing that I don’t already have is a bigger breaker bar. I borrowed a crank locking tool and I’m growing some bigger muscles.
