 Post subject: race can leghthxb9

as some of you might have seen im putting together my own race system for my xb9 what i need to know now is how long should my system be from cylinder heads to end of system as far as i know harleys are supposed to be 34 ins and i know cars are 46 ins before the first silencerthen 46 to the next . but cant find any info on buells any feedback most appreciated.

Depends on where you want peak volumetric efficiency, and bear in mind that all Buell systems (that I know of) have a collector, so you get the effect of the pulse from the other cylinder too.

im using the standard headers so would that mean that i would alredy have a collector or do i need one after that .i am going from the headers to a short straight then to a bend then to another straight before the end can . i am wanting more all round power with probably a little more on the top end .im good with the welding &fabricationbut not so hot on the tecnical side so as much information as possible would be greatly appreciated . thanks

If you find that Holy Grail then I'n sure you'll be headhunted by one of the big Jap factories and be able to name your own salary.
There are plenty of formulas you can use for designing a pipe, you need to read 'Tuning for Speed' by Phil Irving (he designed series B Vincents onwards and had a hand in developing the later Cammy Velos etc,etc).

ok, an old hotrod trick that works..........start with long pipes run a crayon from start to finish run bike and where crayon melts first is the right length.
