Hi every one. So my bike eating belts. I own that beast 1 year and I changed belt 3 times. Last two didn't last even 1000 miles together (harley branded) First one what I had was rubber one and it last for me 7000 miles. I think that fiber glass tension cord is not to good. My question is any one know can i can buy belt with steel tension cord for my bike. Or I need to ride my bike like pussy. :headbang: Like you see second option gonna kill me. :sp:

How tight do you run the belt? Lots of advice here on how slack it needs to be...

You should be getting between 15 and 20k from a belt (or more).

OK. Maybe was run tight. But not to tight in my opinion. Didn't bought yet that thing to measure tension on the belt. I was use this as a clue! ( http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/harle ... -tool.html ) So every thing was all right till I was angry and wanted to burn a tyre. I think fiber glass cord is weak!!! and want to try real steel maybe carbon fibre. If that not gonna help Im gonna use drive shaft :headbang: . Any one use steel cord tension drive belt ? Where to buy? Any ideas apart from this from the book.

You are running your belt too tight. It should be so loose it looks as if it's about to fall off.

On an X1 run the belt slack enough so that you can just nip it together so it touches both the top and bottom of the swingarm at the same time ;) you should get well in excess of 20k out of your belts if running genuine ones.

Did you have a good look at the front and rear pulleys?

Worn pulleys destroys belts in very short time.

That's not a loose belt, it's a snapped one. This is a loose belt:-

As Kevmean said, foolproof test is whether you can just get belt to touch widest part of swing-arm top and bottom simultaneously with bike unladen and on side stand.
So easy, no tension gauges, no tools, no twisting, no skill required, nothing but your hand.
It will seem far too slack, but it isn't. Anything tighter is too tight.
If an MoT tester says he thinks it's too slack, then it is probably correct!

......and if an MOT tester thinks the belt is too slack, sit on the bike and ask him to check again :)
