G'day guys

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on my situation

I just bought my first buell ...have spent far to much money on her converting it to one handed disabled controls and a trick tail unit carbon bits etc and after only a few rides admittedly giving her the berries the drive belt snapped....now this is where I am getting confused as this is my first belted bike..I have read that the 2003 xb9s has a different pitch belt to the later models and this is a upgrade from 2004 onwards .....I've seen kits on fleabay which offer different drive pulleys belt pully cover etc to what I have but the kit isn't cheap ...so my question is do I just buy a @old style" belt for a few hundred quid and hope I get more than 2 thousand miles out of it or are there other alternatives? Also I think my bike revs a little high at cruising speeds so would be good to drop the revs... Would a 2004 xb9r have different pulleys and gearing compared to the S ? Are there cheap aftermarket pulleys available in different ratios? Also can u rev these things like a jsp bike or will I kill it ? Mine has the race kit and feels like it wants to rev

If it still has the smaller pitch pulleys you really do need to upgrade it , like you say you can find the full kits but they aren't cheap, the other way is to pick up the later type pulleys etc second hand. If you are looking at buying genuine parts new give Riders at Bristol a call as they give a discount for UKBeg members. It may also need it's oil pump drive gear upgrading if it hasn't already been done because if it fails it will cause catastrophic engine damage. All Buells need warming up steadily from cold and although the 9's rev more than the 12's they still need respect and can't be treated like a jap multi.

Not a recall so only done if the owner chose, if you have no proof the easiest way to see if the new type is fitted is to drop the oil pump and inspect from below. How many miles has it done?

Yea just been looking on the twin motorcycle website they have a description with pics of how to check and do it...might be a winter project ....the bikes done 2600 miles now )

If it's only done 2600 miles I doubt it will be a problem yet.

And for the sprockets and belt,
Get a clean second hand 04 and up sprocket set from the states and a new belt from Riders of Bristol

04 and up for XB are 65T rear and 27T front

Is it worth putting a new belt on my 2009, 2000 mile XB12SS? Do they deteriorate with age?

I've never had a belt drive bike and it's making me anxious! But I do have breakdown cover, so maybe I shouldn't worry!

If it looks OK it probably is OK (how's that for technical advice eh lOl )
