you'll see it mentioned on badweb if you use the search function. It's supposed to make the engine quieter by shimming out any rockershaft movement

Must admit when I pulled the S1 apart I didn't notice any witness marks on the rocker shafts :yup:

Hmmm.......this is an ancient, well documented issue and I'm amazed that nobody has heard of it before :?
I would say that 50% of the bikes I strip have witness marks on the bolts, the rest have interference fit shafts.
The other fix is to cut a slot through the mount so that the bolt clamps the shaft in place.

Not the least bit worried about it after 16 years on my twinkie. The problem I would have with tightening everything up like that is hoop stress on the cam support plate journals as everything heats up. Eventually everything loosens back up. The shafts can't expand like they want so they exert force on the journals. Then they open up over time. Back to square 1.

On HD based products. If it's quiet, something's gone wrong.
