I'm thinking of buying an 1125CR, and just wanted to know when the issue with the stator makes itself apparent. Is it straight away or after a few thousand miles? Eg. If one has 10k miles on it, but works, does that mean it's had the problem fixed already, or is it not necessarily a problem yet and will inevitably need it done?

Stator issues seem to occur at any mileage,some people run only a few miles others get 20000 on the clock.It is said keeping revs over 5000 helps keep it cool.Easiest way to check is ask previous owner about work done.My 1125 still has the HD band aid,but have fitted a series VR from electrexworld (made for Fireblade) and put switch in to cut out one dipped light and replaced the other with 20w LED bulb.So far no charging problems and relatively cheap (about £100).If you can check voltage at stator before you buy,This will show its current condition.You tube has a film on how to do this.The 1125 is a great bike, I just got back from France after covering 1900 miles in 4 days.

Have a look under the seat if there is still the h-d wiring (lot of grey connectors)
And see what kind of vr is mounted.

Yep that's the standard vr and yep it is a Ducati part.The HD band aid plugs into that before running down to the stator.Unfortunatly with or without the band aid does not prove if the stator has been modded.

Mmm. How did that upgrade harness help, did it improve the efficiency of the wires somehow?

In use the band aid cuts out 2 legs of the stator thus keeping it cooler.This happens when the revs drop so at tickover when hot the volts start dropping to around the 12v marker ie not enough to keep battery charged.An important part of the bandaid is the relay which is not up to the job and should be replaced every 2000 miles to avoid burn out.HD relays cost around a tenner but go on ebay and you only need pay £2/3 pounds,but watch wiring diagram as it must have a diode across the coil.The standard vr produces 100% all the time and shunts excess heat to the chassis,a series vr is cooler to run as it only produces the power,and thus the heat, being used.

My CR has got the oiling rotor + I left the HD harness mod in place as a belt and braces approach. Having the HD mod never caused any undercharging issues with mine .
