2005 xb12s while riding last night i noticed that the led voltage meter i have fitted was dropping from 13volts down to about 9 volts for a couple of seconds and the headlight dimmed a bit but the engine did not miss a beat there was also a slight smell of burn plastic.can i presume one of the coils in my alternator is on the way out.any ideas??

Check the connectors behind the front sprocket cover can't remember if its the one between voltage reg and battery or v reg and stator that melts but check both its dead easy and easy fix

Had the same problem,it was the 77 connector ,best junk it and hard wire with inline crimps,done mine no problems since,there is enough cable for a few goes if thr regulator does go at a later time

XB regulators rarely fail.....it's normally the stator that dies :lol:

I have had both stator and regulator go on my Uly...

Anyhow, if anyone wants to upgrade their 77 connector to the later type, there are a couple of options...

1. Buy the kit from Buell - Y1312.02A8 - about £28 from Riders of Bristol

2. Buy the Deutsch connectors themselves - DTP04-2P & DTP06-2S
