A question regarding engine rotation: must I disconnect to oil lines (old type, all lines at the bottom of the swingarm) or will they bear the bending? I need access to the front rocker box cover, could this be done without fully rotate the engine and leave it on the jack halfway down? |

Oil lines OK left connected on '04 XB, except (2) at base of oil cooler. Engine always supported by jack/blocking. Once you're in there, why go only half-way? : ) I was impressed with XB's multiplicity of mounts re-aligning so nicely at engine reset following rotation. However, now it seems to vibrate and shake differently than it did before rotation, particularly at hard decel/braking. |

Thanks for the reply. I was asking about halfway rotation in case the oil lines would be stressed too much. So I will give it a carefull try this way. I always try not to disconnect oil cooler lines, but leave v-bracket mounted to the engine and have it rotated with it. Oil lines are a PITA to install. |

Novice at this/Buell: I followed '05 factory service manual's procedures. Good tip at oil-cooler & Y-bracket. A lot of disassembly - reassembly with engine rotation, none of it tricky. |

Procedure as described in the SM is much too time consuming. I usually - remove chin spoiler, - remove sprocket cover, - remove muffler, - remove driver footpeg mounts, - unfasten coil, but leave it in place, - release clutch cable from handle, - disconnect rear oil lines to swingarm at engine (and found out yesterday that it's not necessary, just as you said), - support engine by a jack, - disconnect v-bracket from frame, - disconnect upper tie bar at engine and rear tie bar at frame, - losen rear isolator pivot fastener, - remove front mount and then I'm ready to rotate the engine. I don't remove fuel line, connectors and the venturi stack. The wire harness can be released in the middle of the front also and follows the engine nicely without being stretched. |
