Ever since I got my X1, I'd never seen the low fuel light come one.

I actually ran dry one day, but luckily I was at the top of a hill with a filling station at the bottom.

I had a look in the manual and the parts book, ordered a sensor and the rubber seals for the pump outlet and electrical outlet.

Unfortunately the seals are no longer available, so I had a quick chat with :maz: and he gave me the confidence that I 'should' be OK re-using, but they are nothing special, just rubber washers.

Anyway, got around to doing it today. Pulled the pump and this is what I found...

It was a broken wire to the sensor. I looked for my new sensor but I had put it somewhere safe. Besides, this one was repairable. Interestingly, it looked like the sensor had not been crimped correctly, so I stripped the wire, pushed it through the loop on the terminal making sure the insulation was inside the loop and crimped. Then I took the soldering iron and soldered the wire to the sensor (as had been done before).

As the wire had failed at the soldered joint before, I tie wrapped the mating terminal to the earth wire, so it was no so flappy...

A struggle with adult hands to get the pump back in, but once the connector found its way out of the hole in the tank, it was plain sailing...

Everything was good, and now, unusually, I am pleased to see the low fuel light...

I was struggling a bit back for some similar seals and got a few Viton ones made to size from a local engineering / gasket supplier for pennies.

No leaks yet

I think someone had been in the tank before as the o-ring was missing from the nut on the pump outlet...

Tell me about it. I needed more workshop space to get a second hydraulic lift since I always seem to have 2 projects on the go, so I moved the big stuff like the lathe, welders, big press etc into one of the sheds and this required a big tidy up. Now I'm building a YPVS 350 for the track (that I stripped before the tidy  ) I can find fek all. Yesterday I ordered a gasket set, only to find I already had one when I was looking for something else  lOl
