I was up in the north of Scotland last week for a bit of a tour and got caught in a little bad weather (understatement to say the least, nowt like riding through a snowstorm at Glenshee). Few electrical issue showed up. 70mph rain seems to penetrate everywhere.

1. Missfire on the front cylinder - easy fix with some damp start spray.
2. Low charging - I'm going to assume this is damp in the plugs by the timing cover, again damp start.
3. Brake light on all the time.

All of these cured after the bike was left to dry, but the brake light one is a bit of a PITA. Seems that there's no rubber cover over the microswitch on the front brake lever. When the bike was stationary water was dripping out of the microswitch button. After about 20 minutes of riding in the dry it would cure. Has anyone else had this problem? Water in the switch is going to cause corrosion problems after a while. Is there a rubber cover which is missing or is this just bad design?

Three of us are going up this weekend and fully expect it to piss down, but any good weather will be a bonus, but it'll still be an adventure. There's a drying room on the campsite and a pub up the road, so babber to it. :)

Weathers good at the moment, don't trust the forecast though - listening to how heavy the rain is on the tent is the best way. No sound, it's snowing.

Really recommend the slagaccan campsite on Skye - 400 whiskys in the pub about 20m from the campsite, and good food too. The roads on Skye are some of the best anywhere I've been. The run from the quarrang through to uig then on to dronvegan and back to the campsite is one of my favorites.

If you're planning on putting your boots in the tumble dryer, I recommend getting a chair and resting your feet on the door, keeps your toes warm and the boots in the dryer ;) :D

Been right round Skye and last year Mull, this weekend we're using a site near Spean Bridge as a base for touring some brilliant roads.

Won't stop water getting into the front brake light switch though. I see that it's the same part as a sv650 as well as others, never had this problem before :(

Did a thousand miles from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon, mixed bag weather wise, from Mediterranean at Fraserburgh to horizontal hailstones in the Cairngorms . :|

How about a bit of old fashioned grease. Just pack the brake lever area around the button.
one 1,000 wet miles on mine and - as yet - had the problem. Best of luck

I'm with the 'pack it with grease' approach. I ride In all weathers and even us southern softies in Central Scotland experience some 'interesting' weather. I've found some blue stuff that seems to do the trick :4roz:
