Went out for a bit of a blast earlier today and whilst doing 90 the gear box decided to lock up and shred the drive belti. I very nearly missed Christmas this year.

4th gear driving dogs have sheared.

Thanks guys. Yes it was a bit hairy. I had a mate riding close behind me too and if the bike had of locked up and gone I would have taken him out too! Hardest thing was getting the bike across the other 2 lanes of the A21 and onto a hard shoulder with all the other traffic whizzing past me.

So this is a common fault then Maz? Do you think that the gearbox will be shagged then considering the speed I was doing when it went?

One advantage of a belt drive you don't normally consider- a weak (safety) link in the drive line!
