Well missing rather than loose. Still less than 600 miles on the clock and found what looks like a sheared off 8mm bolt with "alan key" head poking out beneath the front cowel (behind the wheel) directly in front of the silencer. Not good.

Have you identified where it came from, or was it in the road and got picked up by your tyre as you rode over it?

Ash & Pash

Doubt it's been picked up and dropped in there - same bolt type as all the others on the Buell.

I've rang the dealer (who's closed today other than an office guy) - he recommended Buell Assist who came out (pretty prompt too) but couldn't get authorization to take it away tonight - something to do with Buell not accepting overnight storage costs. So it's collected tomorrow and off to whoever can sort it quickest. I'm sure the mechanics will know where that size bolt goes. If it's in a threaded hole that will be a bit more problematical I suspect.

Couldn't see anything obviously missing and there's two bolts and nuts visible on the front exhaust flange. The only other bolts I can see of that size hold the crank case on - LH side of the bike but there's 2 showing and nothing seems to be missing. They're smaller bolts on the RH side.

Tis the bolt that secures the front muffler saddle to the crankcase.

So is that a nut and bolt or a bolt in a blind thread :?:

If nut and bolt, how easy to get at or is it best to let the dealer sort it ?

Nut is captive ie. fits into a shaped recess on the other side of the bracket.

Woz and Maz - spot on. Can see through the hole in the small fairing that the bolt and captive nut are both missing. I did notice a change in the exhaust note (a buzzing really) on overrun on Monday night so I guess that's why.

The dealer has agreed to replace under warranty but I can't be ars*d to travel 30 miles each way and they don't want to send a bolt thru the post ( :?: :? ) so I'll get one elsewhere.

Pretty poor show that it should snap with just 573 miles on the clock.

Thanks everyone for all the help.
