Was replacing belt on my XB12R and managed to strip thread/helicoil from one the holes that recieves the bolt securing the swing arm brace. Not 100% sure if its's a helicoil, I've been told it will be magnetic if it's Helicoil as opposed to just the metal of the swingarm. It's not Magnetic, what made me think it was a Helicoil was when I removed the bolt after feeling it strip it wound out a perfect coil of metal with it.

There's still an amount of thread there, I can screw the bolt in, just haven't tried to tighten it up.

Whats the best course of action for this?

The other three bolts went in fine and torqued up without a problem.

Helicoils that I've fitted have always been stainless steel (non magnetic). The perfect coil that came out with the bolt was more likely to be the remaining thread.
What you can probably feel, is the remaining thread at the bottom of the hole. If you try to tighten it up, you will only strip the rest anyway. I would suggest that you need to get it repaired.

Would a repair just be a helicoil, had a look how these work doesn't look to difficult to do. Only problem I have is I'm not sure what size the bolt is hence what size kit to get and once it's done does the torque setting change.

Threads are 5/16'' unc and IMO the shop manual torque of 26ftlb is too high, I torque them to 20ftlb.

This one intrigues me. Would a jig not be more likely to get it true than doing it by eye?
