Loom damage by the head stock maybe!?!
Do the clock needles play up when this happens?
Relays, the ignition one. Does not explain blowing fuses.

Hmm, Nate.

IIRC they can have a break in the loom shroud up by the head stock, not visable, just wondering if it is the main one to the key!
If it was me at this stage I would try to determine with a meter which cables should be live into the key switch and which ones should be live with the key turned to on and tug on the loom around the head stock to see if a change happens. The earth points suffer bad in this area too!

If everthing is shutting down it sounds like the fuse box/relay box is unless someone corrects me losing power which I'm sure is fed via the key.

HTH

Nate.
