No reason what so ever to wait for the CEL to go out before starting.

Would it just be coincidence that it started runnig like this after refitting the front exhaust header back on? I mean I ran the bike for up to a mile from when I noticed the exhaust note was changing before it started popping IE exhaust header out of the manifold? Seems to me that my bike adjusted the fueling for the worst maybe?

if there is a leak between the cylinder head end of the exhaust & the oxy sensor before the silencer, the fuel mixture may be adversly affected causing poor running as the oxy sensor is used to inform the ecu of fuelling requirments HTH ...whichway?

In your 'How To' thread I wrote.........

So, you've done this job once......care to guess how many dozens of times I've done it ??
Everything I've listed above will add another 10 minutes to the job but will ensure that nothing gets damaged.
I will watch/wait for your posts of future issues you may have with your bike

I've not been on for a while.................Try the TPS 'Hard' Reset in the 'How To' section.....................Jeez, I'm getting fed up suggesting this............. :headbang:

This makes sure the ECU is getting the correct throttle position information. I had no trouble codes either but it was out, causing similar symptoms.
Good luck ph ;)

I knew you were going to bring that up

Rode my bike quite a few miles today without problem - except the usually problem since I bought it - on tickover it will miss a beat now and then.

I've done a TPS reset a few times

ignition on
throttle fully open 1sec, then close 1sec x 3
Turn ignition off/on x3

If thats the one it's already been done!

Lands end, in my tiny head you are known as hardreset :hehe: but bro you absolutly correct. It is perfectly reasonable to expect factory tol's could be out in that region and if it was my bike it would be one of the procedures I would follow to elliminate it from the inquiry, phew that was a mouth full :ill:

Nate.

Have you tried new plugs as they foul very easily and are cheap to replace.

If you've got them out replace them as they are only about £5 or £6 for the pair.

How frequently do these fowl up / can I expect to keep changing them - assuming that is my problem of course? I've currently done over 1500 miles, 600 miles with new exhaust.

How long is a bit of string?
You should only need to change them ebery 5000 miles it's just as you've got a running problem it's one of the first things I would change as it's an easy fix if this is the problem.
Just a suggestion.
