Hi
So picked up a nice 1125r from a chap I ended up picking it up in my van and it sat in the back till Fri 13th........home early and its out on the drive, made a few adjustments to lever position reach etc then fired it up and once it started to warm up in the house to get the clobber on.
So sat on the bike adjusting mirrors and it just dies - it starts up on the button but seems to need more throttle than the revs its reading and then it just dies again. At this point all the stories of unreliability and nah sayers don't buy one of those started runnuing through the old mind. Then it just gets worse wont even turn over on the button then it will but dies again, clearly this is not good and is not just a bit of a wobble.
Time to speak to the origonal owner, explained what was going on or not.... and to be fair to him its like bring it back full refund but as he had stuck a new mot on just 2 days ago it sort of didn't add up why its having these problems.
Pulled up the fault log and we had U0001 so let him know on the phone and he was to go away and see if he could get a steer with some phone calls on Saturday.
At this point I am in 2 minds just shelled out on insurance, tax some new shortly levers + oil and fillter, Log book is already in the post, also I wanted a 1125 it had been selected after some long soul searching.
Had a sleep on it and had some plans to check out a few simple things just so i could clear it in my own mind sort of no regrets deal. Did some simple things battery its new but put it on charge, checked fuses-all ok. At one point when it would run as soon as I put it in gear it stopped dead so checked out the side stand switch, metered it out and all looked ok and to be fair i was'nt convinced.
So I having spent a couple of hours and no joy its time to take it back - had enough were is the pram full of toys. Then you get one of those moments of luck / clarity ? had a bit of a poke around the ignition switch and bingo pull the flex out of the ignition barrel and its all go pull it about and its dead....
Origonal owner rings me back found a couple of people who could have a look at it, we discuss this ignition problem and he agrees to buy a new barrel and if this proves no joy all bets are off, he's happy for me to take it apart see if i can find out what going on, so its off with the mirrors, fairing, 2 small screws to undo the barrel prize the base off and there it is a broken wire. Out with the soldering iron and plug it in tempoary and we have lift off
so start putting it back together and not impressed with how the wire was run comes up through a rectangle slot in the fairing / headlamp braket and as you move from lock to lock this flex is pulled in both directions - no wonder its has a problem - no idea if its as the factory intended but came up with a plan and made a bit of a loop and cable tied it so its got some spare to allow free movment - all back together and we now have a nice bike.
So today around 2.00ish were all good to go, off with for a short spin to our local cafe cuppa and sit in the sun the good lady likes it so ended good in the end really please i kept at it, new barrel in the post from the origonal owner
Now your thinking the credits are just about to start playing curtains drawing close, nope see now its mine and its running I have a few things a want to change so first job is take off all the belt covers rear mudguard the strip off the number plate / indicator holder seen some tail tidy's but that's to easy so spend the next hours make my own tidy will post a couple of pics if anyone is intersted.
If you have read all the way to this point your probally bored by now and my fingers are starting to hurt so till next time.......
