It isn't clear from that one picture, but has he hard tailed it?

I must admit, an XB wouldn't wouldn't float to the top of the list I'd consider hardtailing (Say's the man in the process of hardtailing a C90)

I also don't understand why you would want to replace the frame.

Ah, I see you have the same phrase book. lOl

IIRC You should also have.

'Where is my tennis racket press?'

Both invaluable phrases in everyday conversation. :yup:

I'm sorry but I couldn't bring myself to vote for that.
It goes against all things Buell.
I mean he's used the worst parts of an XB and thrown away the good parts. :yc:

I agree.

I see it as the equivalent of a Norumph. ;)

But the reason people choose to pull Buells apart is the very fact that second hand they're virtually worthless and cheaper than a Harley to do this. Many of the very early Buells met this fate. I remember talking with Mr Buell about this subject years ago when he was at Silverstone and he sighed and said that in his opinion it made the worth (worth as motorcycles, not as in money worth) of remaining bikes so much more valuable. I agree, but it is still sad to see abortions like this built. Besides, in probably less than 10 years time most of the Buells on the roads today will have disappeared off the roads as irrepairable.

:yt: Steve has hit the "nail" on the head , a Buell is cheaper & a tuned motor
compared to a sportster , so for this sort of airfix kit IMO , a quick fix.

..for what it's worth my XBR gave me back problems too, so i swapped it for an X1

Well Iam a bit taken aback ....dont hold yr punches lads...

I have to say being new to this forum, and for those of you who read my new member thread may understand me wanting to walk on Tippy toes lOl ..

I must admit its not my cup of tea being
1. looks pretty much an off the peg softail frame and parts obviously
2. didnt really like the red colour
3. I thought, being a harley / buell Dealer how they coulnt have come up with more original concept..
4. its in the final 10 of a custom build comp..no way, money in brown envelopes me think
5. If he enjoyed his buell why tear down a perfectly good bike to do that..Iam sure there at the recieving end of a few smashed bikes??

I'll take it as read that Ive probably made more enemies than freinds without posting jack shit but once upon a time in a barn in wisconsin
Mr Buell sat and designed and built a bike frame with an american made engine from scratch and created a racing bike...the bike posted isn't such a thing, admitidly its made to look like some 'custom type cruiser' pretty not good one maybe a big (1340 fatboy?)
but I think generally (obviously) any type of custom bike would be sxxt on...which is a shame cos believe me theres a lot of totalled bikes around..if it well layed out, built for purpose and you had the balls to build it yourself :sad1: maybe you could offer something back to the Company.. I posted this picture...rake is well out. loss a bit of the stretch...bit of tweaking get rid of those fxxkin handlebars n seat.. you'd have yourself a pretty good race bike ..if that was the frame originally posted I might of understood the entry into the finals
Sorry to ramble on..had some pretty good sxxt to smoke :yup:
just cant stand ignorant gibber....Igo in peace brothers.. afterall were all on two wheels... n watch out for that tractor... respect..

Max, many people here ride Harleys and have built Chops, streetfighters, Bobbers, or call them what you will. Not everyone understands, but as the saying goes,"If I have to explain........"

What Buellers in general are mystified by, is why anyone would take arguably the best handling bike on the road and turn it into a complete POS.
The answer of course, as already stated, is that they are relatively cheap, because no one wants them.

I see nothing wrong with what you are doing, with your build, as the bike as a whole was already written off or never existed as a whole in the first place.

It doesn't matter what the make of bike is either. You'll never convince me that hardtailing a '69 Bonnie is gonna make it handle better than the original.
But that's not the point. Customising bikes is about being original and owning something that no one else has, or can even buy. It's the hours put into the project that make the bike your own, not the size of the cheque that someone wrote to Custom Chrome Inc.

But then, you know that already. ;)

Merry Christmas.
Mick.
