Just bought a 2001 X1, great bike, I think it's the start of a long beautiful relationship, however there are a couple of things I just have to sort out......

Stock handlebars don't suit me, I'm leaning too far forward and want to change them. Has anyone else changed bars to a more upright position. Were existings cables etc long enough. I don't want anything radical just more comfortable.

Gear change lever is stock item and very worn and loose. I know they were always a problem and an aftermarket product should sort the issue, but for now can the angle of the lever be adjusted? At the mo' gear changing is not just a flick with the foot, but more an entire leg movement!!! What have other X1 owners done?

These two changes will make all the difference to my ride :)

Ully bars, and do you have the simple gear lever or the up and over linkage?

Garry,
That linkage you have is probably the best you can get. However, it can be improved by replacing the crappy plastic bushes with Phosphur bronze ones from American Sport Bike, really transforms it.
You can also adjust the position by adjusting the threaded part.

As for handlebars, I know that you can get Renthals that are an inch or so higher, and PROBABLY WON'T require new cables. I expect Tubbs could sort you out a set as moorespeed stock quite a range of renthals IIRC.

HTH

Glad you're back on a decent Buell ;)

My X1 has Ully bars, they give a more upright position and no need to extend cables. :yup:

Hmmmm, I see where I went wrong here.......... "I don't want anything radical just more comfortable"........ is like asking for recommendations for a comfy cardigan.
I should've added......."and doesn't look shit"!!! lOl

So, what more comfy handlebars (that will still maintain the X1's coolness) does the panel recommend? :D
