And just one other thing to note.................in approx a dozen times that it failed at the weekend it never threw up a fault code in the ecm..................have had ecm spy connected tonight and only code was BAS due to me unplugging it for the ride back from Calais.

It is possible to change at roadside .....just a bit fiddly getting wires routed .........then again as a get you out of the crap / just get you home you could leave cover off and route wires outside case until you got somewhere with tools.

or leave it on and take the cover off, to keep it from getting so hot ...it was cooled Sunday morning :?:

I have been wondering if in hindsight if I'd done that if it would have kept itself cool enough to get home.......not sure how it would have liked the monsoon on the A14 though.......saying that i allways break down on that road anyway lOl

Once every 47000 miles. Hardly worth carrying a spare.

I guess the failure looked to the ECM just as if the engine was not rotating any more, which is not a fault from the view of the ECM. I assume it depends on how the sensor fails. If it is sending "obviously wrong" signals (however they might look alike, but I successfully simulated a boxer/inline twin engine's cps signal without any problems), or the signal wire is shorted to ground or supply voltage, the ECM might throw an diagnostic code - IF THIS ERROR IS ENABLED IN THE ERROR MASK! I'm not sure it is.

I've never heard about failing XB camshaft sensors, but I had two X1 sensor failures reported before, one of them exactly as you described. I suppose they are interchangeable, so it might be worth to proceed with an XB sensor.

Is there an error check for it? Cam Sync Failure (56) is the closest I can find and that is disabled in the factory...

This error code is the only one I would know of.

hmmmm Plot thickens as you've all probably seen from my other posts...........although this sensor was on the verge of meltdown it has not cured my problem by changing it .......is the new one faulty? .......not impossible but would have thought unlikely .........all i'll say at the moment is that me and Muffin are having a very strained relationship at the present time.....the excuse that his younger brother played up last week so he can as well doesn't wash with me I'm afraid :D
