Hi, I have a 07 XB12X. My head gasket is as good as gone. Is it quite easy to replace and do I need to look out for anything inparticular when doing it? Also does anyone know where I can get one?
Cheers
Mike

Which one, front or rear? How did that happen?

Not whipped the heads off an XB before, but depending on access, at best it will be an engine rotation, at worst you will have to lift the frame off the engine

Need to bolt the heads down with a lot of patience. Look at Adam's "How To Cut Down the Cam Cover" in the How To section for tips on this. Otherwise you may bend valves, bend pushrods and crack valvel guides.

Buell dealer?

Thank you for the help guys. Having problems actually getting the gasket as most catalogues for the xb12x stop at 2006 for some unknown reason but will take current one out to compare so as to get same one. I should think it is the the same as the harley xl1200 but better to check first.
I must say having the bike off the road is certainly keeping me fit, crikey cycling to work every day is taking it out of me.
It's the front gasket that's gone, think it's kinda my fault. I don't live very far away from work and in the mornings ive just been starting it up, getting on the hammering it to work, no warm up time or anything. My own fault but that will teach me.
If I need any more help I shall let you know.
Oh can anyone direct me to what my torque settings should be please?
Cheers
Mike

Are you sure it's actually the head gasket that has gone and not just the lower rocker cover leaking ? The rocker gaskets are far more common fault especially when engines aren't warmed up correctly.

Head gasket part number is 16770-84D

It was superseded by 16770-84E and maybe has been once more. The HD dealer will tell you what the current part number is.

Sounds like your HD dealer is not living up to expectation. Give Black Bear a call, they will most likely have one in and will post same day at cost.

Torquing the head down is one thing, but the method of tightening down the rocker box is another.

You have PM...

Well to tell the truth Howard doesn't have alot to do with Buell's but he does try and I can't actually say that I have used the Plymouth HD yet, as when my dad needed something from them they were not particularly impressive. Thank you for all your help guys. Hopefully will be back on er soon then will be able to come and meet some of yous lot.
