Think I'm going to sleep on it for a while, but I'm not going to trade as is or throw it out of a van

Thanks for all your comments and input and it seems I under estimated the price of the parts and what will be needed to rebuild the engine

So how much are the parts on there own?
Why does it need a new crank can it not be ground and fit oversized bearings?
How much is a new engine?
Surely you could get an engine from a breakers for less than £1000 although it could be as bad as you've got now.

Mmmm just had a look at the manual I guess not.
Never had much to do with bike engines before just cars and trains.

It's still shite a bike with 15,000 and full service history is fucked.
Buells suck. :(

Crank is 600 quid, gasket set is 140 quid, main bearings are 60 uid (pinion bearing is a bastid to set up ) + all the other stuff you find whilst yer in there.
There are engineering company's that can remove the flywheels off the crank pin, press the outer races out of the conrods, rebuild and balance etc. but I know for a fact that their cost will = more than Buell want for a new assembly.
New engine from Buell is 4,200 +vat.

That's rediculous my bike only cost £5000 brand new and it's the same cost for a new engine.
Maz any idea why this happens at such a low mileage?

I paid £1K for a spare X1 motor off Ebay. The XB motors sell for a bit more than that.

XB motors are way cheaper and more available than real Buell engines due to the fact that XB's are so much more disposeable......ie. drop an XB and it's a write off, or develop a gearbox problem and it's a write off, etc. etc.

That's tough luck - just reading this thread and owning an '04 12s with 12k on the clock makes me think I'm living on borrowed time!
