Nate you are being naughty!!! I told you all about it even the cheap skate idea of cutting the seal squirting the oil in then using a bike puncture repair kit to cover the hole.
Just buy one from Maz, I'll come with you and show you the way if you like (assuming I can remember the way!!!)
Don't feck around get it done!

:hehe: yeah know :hehe:
Just wanted to know more, sounds like a good idea though.

I just tried using a syringe on my "Mazerk" fitting but couldn't seem to even get a drop of oil to go in. I didn't want to use too much force coz I'm sure Maz said something about a seal inside that could be pushed out...

What am I doing wrong?? :?

edit: I poked the spring-ball in the grease nipple and it moves freely... is it possible a tiny amount of oil went in and then there's no room for more...?

Ta for the info :) ... I'm sure you said summat about just a couple of drops and not forcing too much in, so I didn't wanna risk using a grease gun... I mean oil gun...

Funny that, mine works every time using a syringe with rubber pipe on it. handy size, no mess and I know exactly how much goes in. I tested the idea on the bench before fitting the mod.
Still :maz: knows best ;)

Just been reading the manual!
Those needle bearings are built up with some grease on them!
So what harm would come from adding a small amount of say a mol' grease or that molyslip stuff????

You saying that, I just tried the syringe again and really gave a good shove on it, figuring it can't do any harm if using a grease gun is ok... I've got a short length of rubber pipe that fits well to syringe and grease nipple at either end... Pushed on the plunger as hard as I could but it wouldn't budge!

Oh well... try the grease gun now methinks...

EDIT: Just had one last go with the syringe and this time it worked :D

Using grease will more likely hydraulic the plug out.

Who said they where using grease? not me sir! I only use the finnest g/box lub bought from your good self. Why would you put grease in a gearbox that is lubed by oil that would be daft. wouldn't it?????

Someone mentioned a dry lubricant. I fully realise you're only talking a few ml's of lube, but any dry lubricant like graphite or moly disulphide is never a good idea where a sprag clutch or a plate clutch is concerned.

Says so in the manual softley! Maz has a point though, bollocking in grease will pop that seal out for sure. 03 is right about the graphite stuff n' clutches too.

I'm thinking these bearings aren't helped any the bike being on it side stand for hours, now if I could just lay the bike over on it's right side all night that would keep oil there a treat :yup:

just for clarification (and I hope Maz will correct me if I'm wrong) the bearings we are talking about here are the needle roller jobbies that are up the middle of what is referred to in the manual as the Main Drive Gear and these are assembled with sport-trans fluid. we are not talking about the main bearing (ball's) that supports the Main Drive Gear. the MDG is a tube with splines on one end for the front rubber band sprocket and a gear on the other end to take the drive from the gear train. Up the centre of the MDG runs one of the gear cluster shafts (can't remember which one). The problem is that the needle rollers get little or no lube from the box proper because any that does get there has to come via spinning cog (splash) and that is unlikely to happen much. I do not think there is a seal on the inner end of the MDG so what lube you put in will sooner or latter work its way out. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

as a check for peace of mind Dunno, try unscrewing the nipple and see how much trans+ you can get in there before it overflows  you won't have to worry about hydraulicing the plug out then (assuming you don't stuff the syringe pipe in with gusto)

Ta for that, GM :)
Although if I go fiddling with it, I'll probably bugger it up somehow!

I'm booked in at Maz's 3 weeks from now... I'll mither him about it then!

Great idea, that grease nipple doohicky :)

But obviously not foolproof :oooops:
