Ok, up until last week, in free flowing traffic especially at 60+ mph, the AT reading on my Buell would be around real air temperature off the bike ( I have seen it read minus 2C on a motorway before. In town it would quickly climb into the 20's and 30's if I got caught at lights. The coolant temperature has rarely risen much above 80C even in town.

I checked the coolant level at the weekend (for the first time :oooops: ) and the coolant expansion bottle was empty. I topped it up to the cold fill level, and whilst I had the torx driver out, removed the seat, disconnected the noid', and fitted the resister.

Riding home from work tonight, the AT reading remained at 27C even when I was riding progressively. The coolant temperature was a fairly constant 75C.

Is there any logical reason the AT reading would be higher? What sort of AT readings do other people have?

Havn't tried the 1125 but when i had ecm spy plugged into the X1 on saturday, with an outside temp of about 4 or 5 degrees with the bike warming up while stood, the IAT got up to 30 degrees due to picking up the heat from the headers. I'd guess the 1125 will also pick up warm air from the engine while stood or travelling slowly . ;)

Mine's given readings like that since new - it usually coerrects itself eventually.

As Kev said, I think that it's down to latent heat - one day I will get around to fitting a heat barrier under the airbox.

The AT usually reads lower when I'm riding faster.

It's running ok and sounding ok, so I guess i'll just keep an eye on it. I'm guessing the coolant temperature is the important one.

IF the intake air temp sensor is reading higher than what the real temp is then I would assume it will weaken the fuel to match the less dense air, thats mainly what its there for (plus to let you know its bl....dy cold)

The AT reading is not really external ambient temperature but the temperature of the air local that the airbox is seeing, this can be affected by all sorts of things, hot air from the radiators at rest may give some odd readings etc.

If you refer to the manuals have a look at the sensor location

The intake air sensor is at the front of the intake snorkel,i have not done many miles yet,but I noticed the engine heat warms the intake air quite quickly if stopped or riding slowly, but returns quite quickly to ambient once you move faster than about 40mph,so there may be a prob, perhaps the sensor is not in its rubber grommet?

Front exhaust header is directly beneath the IAT and when those fans kick in they discharge right up the snorkel

.......shouldn't be a problem once you're rollin' 8-)
