remember what got you in to this game in the first place

Spot on Steve.....but imagine trying to run your entire dealership single handed

I have zero 'me time'....other than when I sleep and even then I wake up wondering whether I remembered to tighten whatever fastener whilst servicing someones bike because I just spent 40 mins on the phone explaining how to fit a part I mail ordered to someone the day before.
My workshop is mega busy this time of year but I still spend half the day packing mail orders, driving to the PO, standing in line, back to the shop to invoice, updating my books, answering phone queries, phoning though stock orders etc. etc. etc.....and all this for zero profit = loss.
Then I get back to spannering till god knows what time at night, then once home, I'm back on this place.....dozens of PM's for mail orders to go out the following day......and so it goes on 7 days a week.
If that wasn't enough.....then you get all the calls re. '' WTF my parts didn't turn up today''....and even though most parts are delivered with in 24 hours of an order, payment often takes 2 weeks or more to arrive, mostly with a 2nd class stamp, cheque made out incorrectly, a 3 quid cheque sent recorded so I have to stand in line at the PO again to collect etc. etc.
You may well criticize the way I run my business ie. no credit card facilities, no staff, whatever but my overheads versus my hourly rates dictate the service I can offer at a price to suit the average punter who cannot afford to pay for main dealers overheads.
You're right Steve, I need to get back to where I started ie. Buells and the folk that own them, without the distractions of trying to keep an ever increasing base of owners supplied with parts that they cannot get from the official dealer network, in order to maintain/fuck up their own machines :|

I'm still jobless and still willing to lend a hand @ zero cost....I'm doing fuck-all else!

That's a very generous offer GT and one I've had from several others......if only it were that simple, eg........you get a PM or a call from a customer who has lost 4th gear on his X1, he wants you to send all the bits he needs to sort it.......what you gonna send him ?
Someone else needs to sort the clutch basket bearing on their 06 XB12.......what you gonna send them ?
Another punter needs a VSS for his 03 XB9R......what you gonna send him ?

etc. etc.......I know exactly what they need, where to find it, how much it costs, etc.....do you ?

Oh and I wouldn't have anyone working for free ;)

Ok...I've mastered the art of pricing a 10 year autocallable on inflation with knockout at 99%. 6months earlier i hadn't a clue.

Course i'm not gonna be able to answer those questions straight away...but i just need to hear the explanation once! + if someone is attempting to fix a gearbox on a X1 it means that they know what they are doing. Hence my answer would be " do you know what part you're after?"

+ The fact that you have many more punters asking stupid questions like i used to...that can easily be answered. In my experience a ringing phone is enough to distract you from doing a job properly.

Like i said i'm doing fuck all and i've got a few skillz.

+ I kept telling you that you need a new website! Even just a order request page...you put a form in with a PHP and MySQL back-end and when someone completes the form you will have a nice printout of their specific requirements.

Take a look at THIS SITE which i did many moons ago(like six years worth of moons)...

It is not fully automated and does not have customer login. It still requires you to call back but if you insist on people filling orders via the pornweb at least all the details will correct and you will have a record of what people ordered & you don't have to spend time going: "sorry how do you spell that road/what is ur postcode?"

Subcontract then. You have the knowlege but won't provide the service.
He wants to provide the service but hasn't your knowlege. can a deal be done ?
