Pleased to have put a smile on your face, Maz but I only base that comment on the number of times I've held back from pissing on your strawberries on the occasions when I've read your immortal two word phrase starting with "......in...." :)

As I said above
Quote:
I have been gobsmacked on occasions when I've seen some of the parts that Maz stocks
People who have needed those parts should be eternally indebted to you, you have always offered a first class service motivated by enthusiasm rather than commercialism. I admire you for it and make no pretence of saying that we will be able to match it but we will do our best to look after people while matching our stock levels to the return that we get on our investment.

You've had enough of busting your balls for no return so why knock someone who is prepared to fill some of the void that you have vacated. Just don't expect us to do it for purely philanthropic reasons.

If we did that we would probably end up as miserable bastards who don't get to ride their bikes - something you clearly need to do.

Lighten up :maz: Let's party :old:

Steve

Fair enough Steve....I'm very proud of my stock levels, it's taken 11 years and shit loadsa dosh to get there but I'll guarantee that the only place in Europe that holds more stock is the distribution centre......and even they have back orders that I keep in good numbers on my shelves

Hi Maz.

I know you think I am a right tit but I may be able to help some. Buisness is what I did in the past and I do know were you are coming from.

I can always pop up to have my headrace bearings tested ;)

Been there, seen it, done it, had a heating buisness employing 8 staff, went in to work Jan 2nd 2002, sat at desk, decided to drop all of my big contracts, cut back to me, the aprentice and the gilr in the office, held a staff meeting, told everyone subcontract work would be available, all acepted the situation.

I have never looked back that was the best trading year I had, profits were up stress was down, I had the time to take my wife to the many hospital visits she had to go on, I even got out on my bike a couple of times a week

Later that year British gas offered me a full time post (better for me with my wife being ill) I took it

The moral of the story is, you only get one time around, and time is important, you have to do what you have to do, but most important you have to do what is right for you, I did :D

Maz if you decided to reinstate the mail order business as Dutch has said
I am sure there would be a number of people willing to give sensible advise.

For instance to save the payment/chasing/cheque scenarios.

Go exclusively PDQ credit/debit card payment, but make it work financially for you.

I think reasonably current costs are Machine £20 per month and anything between
1.7 and 2.4% per transaction (dependant on bank/card type,etc)

So you could charge everyone 3%, and if they spend say less than £70.00
they pay a Flat fixed charge of say £2.00 on every purchase from you ,for the convenience of them being able to use a card and to satisfy your payment requirements.
(you could of course just increase the cost of all parts to cover PDQ charges
but you may risk looking uncompetitive , having said that who can compete with you
if they don't stock the product)

Depending on the quantity of mail orders per month you do, I am sure this would
cover the standing costs/charges and provide some extra profit.

By all means tell me to mind my own business but only trying to help.!

I thought the issue was that Maz doesn't get enough "him" time and he wanted to concentrate on the mechanical side of the business rather than chatting on the phone and queuing up in the Post Office. :?

This will probably get shot down in flames, but as Maz has just saved me around £60.00 compared to HD Edinburgh then I need to try. It would be a sad day to see the mail order go. Does that mean we can't phone for advice aswell Maz? Is there not a forum member that lives close to you? If so why can't that person be the point of contact for the mail order side of life. They could then use your stock levels making you money and make a bit of money for themselves aswell. Are you still taking phone calls reference problems with bikes? If so then you are giving free advice and seeing no return. If I could pop in and buy items from you I would. I think one of the major factors in me buying the S1w, was I knew that the help and knowledge that this forum and yourself provided would make the Tuber experience possible and all the more enjoyable.

:yup:

I'm sure Maz will feel no pressure to perform as many here demand.

If he wants to spanner bikes rather than spend time at the post office sending out his hard-fought stocks at no profit to himself, I'm just fine with that.

I'd also be just fine if he upped his rates to something more commercially-viable, I'd still not take my Buell anywhere else.

On the other hand, if he started to get wet-behind-the-ears monkeys to even remove the fuel cell cover, then I'm not so sure I'd be fine with that. Having watched him, whilst it might superficially appear as if he is just undoing a few hex bolts, I know that he's done half the diagnosis before getting the tank off.

:yup: to that too.
