Is it legal in the UK to modulate one's headlamp? That is, to make the lamp go dim-bright-dim very fast (not a strobe effect to imitate police, but still, fairly close). They are legal in all 50 states, and even suggested here by the state of Maryland Motor Vehicles Division to increase one's presence to other (caged) drivers. I just installed one on my bike, and it has the added bonus of lighting both lamps (on low beam, it dims the high bulb, and switched to high beam, it modulates the high beam during the day, and goes to regular high beam - both lamps on - at night, when it is not legal to modulate). I haven't experienced this yet, but apparently other motorists can mistake a bike with a modulating headlight for a police vehicle, and pull over to let you pass... not the reason anyone would ever use such a device, of course... ;)

I have read all about possible meltdowns of the reflectors from running both lamps, and I will definitely monitor this as I go forth and modulate. Just wondering if this sort of device would be allowed in UK and over across the channel.
