What oils would you all recommend for trans & engine other than the stock HD oils?

Will synthetic be better on these hot engines (XB12Scg) or should I ride a bit faster

Is there a one for all oil (trans & engine) which can be used?

What brand names are good?

Cheers

I would always use HD oil, although this time round I have 20/50w silkoline fully synth, not what I would normally put in, but my mechanic put it in and it seems to run ok, will put genuine HD back in in 2000 miles time, as by Maz's recommendation. Don't use a thinner oil as they engines rely on the oil for tappet clearance (hydraulic tappets), only spells disaster if you use the wrong oil.

Use genuine HD gear oil, to be on the safe side.

H/D also say that their screaming eagle 20/50 full synthetic oil can be used in the primary as well as the engine, not tried it though. ;)

I have used Syn-3 in the transmission once since it was rather "in-vogue" at the time; gearchange wasn't better or worse than with anything else I have used, no other noticeable side-effects either. Just nicely slippery oily oil, but never used it again ;) Sticking with 20w50 HD mineral and sport-trans (or whatever it's called these days).
