About four years ago, possibly more, my headlight flasher stopped working. On inspection, the ball had gone and I simply replaced it with another one which worked perfectly. While checking it before mot, I tried the flash and it blew the fuse. After the second blown fuse, I stripped the switch down and the original ball had not dropped out but had worked its way down to the bars where it was causing a dead short every time I flashed (not the usual reaction when I flash but that's another story). Offending ball removed and sanity restored.
