All X1's were registered as S1's in order to dodge homologation.
2002 X1's are parts bin builds to the same spec. as 2001.
S1 and X1 are totally different bikes.....main differences are fuel injection and removeable frame section on X1.......S1's look better but X1 is a far superior machine.

Or the much more desirable 99 with skinny seat unit ;) and exhaust that doesn't burn your leg off :hehe:

No

If you prefer a carb and of course there are the aesthetics.

From an engineering perspective, the 2001 X1 is supposed to be the one with all the tuber upgrades made through the years and therefore the 'best'.
From a different perspective, nearly all those upgrades are retro fittable to earlier tubers, following the KISS principle, I prefer a carb over fuel injection and when looks come into the question the (early) M2s and S1s are the top of the tree. But this is all personnel taste, if you plan on running a 'standard bike' the 2001 X1 is the most sorted

I have a feeling that the X1 has slightly different steering geometry to give a bit quicker steering.....but I may be wrong.
