Hi all,

As the subject states, I have an issue with my XB. It starts fine and runs well until I let the clutch out, then it stalls. (Yes, I have checked its in neutral! lOl )

I am suspecting it's the clutch switch and will be ringing Riders of Bristol for a replacement (asking for the Ukbeg discount of course - thanks Pash!)

Just a couple of questions though...

Is there anything else I should be looking at for the fault other than the clutch switch?

Does anyone know the part number I will need for a clutch switch?

I don't have a workshop manual for my bike and can't find one to download. Does anyone have a copy for sale or a link to an online one I can download?

Thanks. X

Side stand was down all the time when starting the bike. It was when clutch released that caused it to stall.

Thanks for the input though. :yup:

Throw both switches away link out the wires, job done.

Connect the switch wires and see if the problem goes away. If it does, solder the wires and seal the with shrinkwrap etc.

It will be the stand switch Jill, the logic allows you to start it with the stand down but not to let the clutch out... the fact that then is when the engine cuts, shows that the clutch switch is working fine.
Easily checked by pulling off the connector and bridging the terminals with a paperclip or somesuch.

Right......update on bike.

I decided to try and start the bike with the side stand up, clutch in and then let clutch out once running. It worked perfectly... :?

Decided to put the seat back on and engine cut out!! Checked all wires etc. Tightened up battery terminals, put seat on properly and tried again. Bike worked fine with side stand up and down. Rode bike a couple of feet, took out of gear, put side stand down and bike cut out.

Tried again a couple of times with riding it etc, put side stand down, worked fine. Twisted bars from side to side full lock, shook bike around, flipped stand up and down numerous times, worked fine.

Haven't a clue what the problem is/was but seems ok now...

I know the bike hasn't been ridden for 4 or 5 months :oooops:, maybe it needed its stiff joints easing, who knows.

At least it's working at the mo. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. :4roz:

have a look at the switches and get or make something (short piece of wire with the right connectors on) to connect the wires together. Should the problem reoccur
It may be working ok now but what happens if you go out for a ride and pull up somewhere and it starts messing about and cutting out again. :headbang: :coat:
The switches, are a nice safety feature but are a known problem area and others have removed them and connected the wires together

Thanks Pash. I was looking in the 'downloads' section of the forum where the other manuals are and obviously there isn't one there. :oooops:
